Meredith Alumnae trip to historic Charleston, South Carolina!

Make plans to join Meredith College Alumnae for a fun filled weekend in historic Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston is known for its rich history, water front views, historic buildings, and local cuisine. The Alumnae Charleston trip is scheduled for April 25-27, 2014.

Weekend Schedule: 

Friday, April 25

9:30 am – Noon

The Chef's Kitchen Tour of Charleston - $42/person
Get a behind the scenes understanding of some of Charleston’s best chefs and their restaurants that have created the Lowcountry Cuisine Renaissance. On this 2½ hour walking tour, you will visit several great restaurants where you will explore the history of the restaurant, learn about the chef’s approach to culinary excellence, have the menus interpreted by a pro, and tour the kitchen for a close-up peek at just what it takes to produce those fabulous meals. The Charleston Kitchen Tour begins with coffee and artisan pastries. This weekend kick-off may inspire future reservations.

Saturday, April 26

 

9:30 am - Noon

Savor the Flavors of Charleston Tour – included in trip cost
Come join us as we walk, talk and taste our way through Charleston. This 2½ hour Charleston Culinary Tour will immerse you in the history and culture of the Lowcountry.  You will discover how our unique cuisine has evolved over the past 300+ years while sampling delicious specialties from local eateries, markets, bakeries, restaurants, and culinary landmarks. Typical tastings include: Stone Ground Grits,
Charleston Benne Wafers, Locally Made Gourmet Chocolates, Southern Pralines, Sweet Tea, Collard Greens and Lowcountry Barbeque

2 - 4 pm

Tommy Dew's Walking History Tour - $25/person 
Get some exercise while you learn about local history from Tommy Dew. Download his "Charleston City Slicker" iPhone app. Tour covers 10 blocks and lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes.

7:30 pm - 

Charleston Ghost and Graveyard Tour - included in trip cost
You’ll get an exclusive opportunity to walk inside the gates of one of Charleston’s oldest graveyards after dark. Explore the graveyard’s dark corners, closely inspect the headstones to see what you might learn, and take a moment to step across the graves, if you dare. Learn about the history of Charleston’s graveyards and hear the stories of the famous individuals who found their final resting place in the Holy City. You’ve heard the spooky Charleston ghost stories. Now experience them on this up close and personal tour that takes you where others won’t dare go. Graveyards – full of history, intrigue and tales of love and loss.
