Naming Opportunities Support Students

Since 2011, enrollment in Meredith’s undergraduate communication and exercise and sports science programs has increased by 29% and 52% respectively. That growth has led the College to build a new 13,000 square foot Communication and Exercise & Sports Science building currently under construction near Weatherspoon Gym and the Lowery Fitness Center. It will give students access to innovative spaces that allow for creativity, collaboration, new technologies, new equipment, and hands-on experiences in both majors.

The Communication program will have specialized spaces including an agency-style classroom, a media studio, editing rooms, and a podcast studio. These new spaces will allow students to thrive in a hands-on learning environment and in the advanced courses of the program. Students will have the opportunity to work on projects for companies and organizations in their fields of interest. These projects may include social media campaigns, brand campaigns, digital communications, videos, news releases, web design, and content creation. These valuable experiences can lead to portfolio samples and professional references to help students find internships and permanent jobs after graduation.

A Human Performance Lab for the Exercise and Sports Science program will give students access to cutting-edge equipment in a large space allowing multiple research projects to take place at the same time. Hands-on learning in the Human Performance Lab, which is critical in this field of study, will enhance students’ preparation for internships, employment, and graduate programs by providing learning opportunities that are in line with current expectations. Equipment in this lab will focus on body composition; muscle, brain and heart health; fitness assessments; biomechanical measurements; adaptive technologies, and more.

With both programs in the same building, there will be opportunities for interdisciplinary work between the programs including sports communication coursework and student-based projects that span both areas of study.

Currently, Institutional Advancement is offering opportunities for individuals and organizations to name spaces within the building allowing donors to support students and further enhance their education at Meredith.

A gift to name any of these areas gives the donor permanent name recognition for themselves or in memory or honor of a loved one. The rooms within the building give a student the opportunity to learn in a space that will prepare them for a career after graduation.

A broad range of opportunities for recognition are available for the following spaces.

  • Communication and Exercise & Sports Science Building
  • Naming of Departments
  • Agency-style Classroom
  • Media Suite
  • Media Studio
  • Editing Rooms
  • Human Performance Lab
